Green Garter Band
MUS 395/695
Eric Wiltshire, director
The Green Garter Band is a select group of twelve players that
has developed into the most versatile, high-energy, well-known
musical group on campus. Student leadership and an active student
group involvement have made this group truly exceptional. From
rock and roll, to swing, to pop, this band can play it all. A faculty
member advises this group, but tune selection, arranging, logistics,
and even performance opportunities are decided by the student director
and the members of GGB.
The Green Garter Band performs for all UO Women's Volleyball home
games, UO Women's Basketball home games, and serves as the core
unit of the Oregon Basketball Band. Each year, the GGB also gives
approximately 20-25 performances at special Athletic Department
events, for the UO School of Music and Dance, for the University
at large, and at various special events within the community. GGB
is very popular; therefore the performance schedule is heavy, but
the rewards are great. Come be a member of the one and only Green
Garter Band. You will remember it for the rest of your life!
Green Garter Band members are awarded a full instate scholarship.
Auditions are held as positions in the band open. Candidates for
membership are required to be enrolled as a full-time student and
have at least one year of Oregon Marching Band experience. Members
must participate in both the Marching Band and Basketball Band
while in the band, and finally, have more fun than humans should
be allowed!
