Oregon Wind Ensemble
MUS 395/695
Robert Ponto,
conductor
The Oregon Wind Ensemble, one of the Northwest's premiere wind groups,
is comprised of about 45 of the most talented wind, brass and percussion
students on the University of Oregon campus. Its repertoire ranges from
traditional band works, to one-on-a part chamber works, to world premieres.
The Oregon Wind Ensemble has appeared at numerous national, regional, and
state conventions, and performs approximately eight to ten times each academic
year. Recent highlights include appearances at the Oregon State Music Educator's
Conference, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, a tour to Southern
Oregon and California, and a memorable performance with saxophone virtuoso
Eugene Rousseau. Repertoire highlights included such works as The Lord
of the Rings by Johan deMeij, Postcard by Frank Ticheli, Scherzo by Leonard
Bernstein, Rocky Point Holiday by Ron Nelson, Lincolnshire Posy by Percy
Grainger, and many others. Auditions for the Oregon Wind Ensemble are held
in the Fall of each year during New Student Week. Further auditions are
held in the Winter and Spring only if openings should occur. The audition
consists of a prepared piece (approx. three to five minutes), scales and
sight-reading. The Oregon Wind Ensemble has a long tradition of excellence
and we invite you to be a part of that wonderful tradition.
