Percussion Ensemble
The Percussion Department at the University of Oregon
offers two percussion performance ensembles. The
University Percussion Ensemble is devoted to the performance
of standard percussion ensemble repertoire which balances the avant-garde
music performed by The
Oregon Percussion Ensemble. Percussionists majoring in music
performance perform in both of the percussion ensembles.
Percussion students also have the opportunity to
participate in large ensembles including the University Symphony,
under the direction of Wayne
Bennett; Oregon Wind Ensemble conducted by Robert
Ponto; Oregon Symphonic Band conducted by Timothy
Paul; Oregon Marching Band directed by Eric
Wiltshire; jazz bands and combos under the direction of Steve
Owen; and the Pacific Rim Gamelan directed by Robert
Kyr.
Performance degrees are offered at the Bachelor,
Master's and Doctoral (Primary and Supporting) levels. The University
of Oregon also maintains a strong program in music education, where
students have the opportunity to enroll in specialized course work
leading to degrees in Music Education.
