ELIGIBILITY
Admitted undergraduate and graduate music majors are eligible
for scholarships, which may be granted for more than one year.
Most music awards are given on the basis of musical achievement
and academic accomplishment. Some scholarships in music include
the criterion of financial need. To determine scholarship recipients,
School of Music and Dance faculty rely on the applicant's academic
record, application file, and an audition, if applicable.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
For both graduate and undergraduate
applicants the application deadline is January 2. Applications
postmarked after January 2 may lose priority consideration. If

GRADUATE TEACHING FELLOWSHIPS
Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTF) and graduate scholarships
are awarded to admitted graduate music majors on a competitive
basis. Prospective candidates for GTF awards are evaluated on
the contents of the application file, and/or the audition, and
interview, if applicable.
Graduate teaching fellowships include
a stipend as well as a tuition waiver and excellent medical
insurance benefits.
Past fellowships have been awarded in the
following areas:
Athletic Bands, Brass, Choral Conducting,
Collaborative Piano, Composition, Ethnomusicology, Jazz Studies,
Intermedia Music Technology, Music Education, Music Theory, Musicology,
Percussion, Piano Pedagogy, Strings, Voice/Opera, Wind Ensemble,
Conducting, Woodwinds
Please note: Not all areas award fellowships
every year.
Applicants interested in applying for a GTF in music theory must
take and pass the "Qualifying Examination for Music Theory." The theory qualifying
examination is administered by proctor only and the completed
exam must be received by Jack Boss no later than January
29, 2010 for priority consideration.
Applicants are responsible
for identifying a proctor (normally a professor in your home institution),
scheduling the exam, and providing the proctor with the email
address for the School of Music and Dance theory department chair,
Jack Boss (email: jfboss@uoregon.edu). The proctor
is asked to email Jack Boss indicating his/her willingness
to proctor the examination. The examination and administration
information will then be sent to the proctor electronically.
