IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT HOUSING
During the time the Orff Workshop will be held, the University of Oregon will be hosting the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials. As a result, university housing has set a deadline of May 1 for reserving university residence hall lodging . This is a very firm deadline, so all Orff participants are strongly urged to make housing arrangements as soon as possible ! (You should also note that there will be little to no availability for off-campus housing during this time, so all participants are strongly encouraged to plan to stay in university housing.) Course Overview
These courses are designed to develop understanding of the teaching
and learning process using the Orff Schulwerk approach to music
and movement. The daily schedule, at both levels, includes focus
on rhythm, melody, Orff instruments, movement, recorder playing,
improvisation, musicianship, Orff theory, orchestration, and pedagogy/special
topics sessions.

Levels
Level I
Anyone with music training wishing to acquire basic knowledge and
pedagogic foundation in the Orff Schulwerk approach may enroll.
To receive a Level I certificate, participants must attend all
sessions and successfully complete all assignments.

Instructors
Jim Solomon – Level I, Basic & Pedagogy
Jim Solomon is an author, national clinician, and National Board
Certified Teacher. He teaches at R. B. Hunt Elementary in St. Augustine,
FL, where he works with general music classes, Chorus, Recorder
Club, and D.R.U.M. Jim is a former St. Johns County “Teacher
of the Year.” He has taught Level I Orff for over 20 years
and just taught a Master Class in Rhythmic Training at the National
Orff Conference.
Gwen Hargrove - Movement & Recorder
Gwen Hargrove currently teaches music and movement at Ocean
Palms Elementary in Ponte Vedra, Florida. She is an active Orff
Schulwerk presenter, and has taught Recorder, Movement, and Special
Topics at Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training courses at Jacksonville
University, the Eastman School, and the University of Florida.
Hargrove recently served on the AOSA National Board of Trustees.

New England Dancing Masters (Amidons)
Comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate for movement are recommended.
All materials will be available for on-site purchase through
West Music Company.
In addition, if you are interested in purchasing non-pitched percussion
or Orff instruments at the end of the workshop at a reduced rate,

Tuition and Fees
Tuition
Non-Credit: $650
Graduate Credit: 01-06 Hours, $50 per credit hour
(in addition to the $650 workshop fee).
By June 23, the UO Continuation Center form must be completed and all graduate fees paid.

You may cancel your conference registration on or before June 1 for a full refund minus $50 processing. After June 1, there will be no refunds.

Lodging/Meals
Lodging
All necessary information may be found at: http://housing.uoregon.edu/summerhousing/. Arrangements for residence hall lodging must be made through University Housing. Housing arrangements should be completed as soon as possible. It will not be possible to reserve university housing after May 1, 2008 .
Meals
As the housing URL indicates, the residence halls offer flexible meal plans. In addition, several fast food and moderate-priced restaurants are within walking distance of the School of Music .
